The conveyor belt is the cornerstone of many industries and continues to become more efficient. If you ever get involved with manufacturing or the supply chain, you probably will need to invest in some. Of course, there are many types out there that are suited for specific applications.

What are conveyor belts usually used for?

Belts conveyor systems, are quite common in the industrial world and you may have even seen them in consumer establishments. It is used as a means to carry objects in an endless loop using its system of pulleys. The drums are powered and will rotate a stretch of a belt in a circular loop.

The types of belts conveyor systems depend on the power needed and the size of the product. The most mainstream version would be conveyor belts used in warehouses or manufacturing plants. These belts can move boxes of products from assembly lines right into trucks or storage areas. It is primarily used to remove the need for manual labor or vehicles within the compound.

Heavier duty uses would be in construction, mining or transporting crude material. Heavy duty belts are obviously needed to transport metal parts, rock, sand, coal and other objects that would otherwise need large vehicles to transport.

With more novelty uses, like with toys or restaurants, small conveyor belts with rubber are useful. Belts may be devised to be used with irregular-shaped objects and niche uses.

Are there different types of conveyor belts?

There are different designs of belts conveyor systems using various materials and mechanical designs. Some of them may not be so obvious, even if you have used them at some point in your life.

A roller bed is a common conveyor belt that most people recognize. Usually, it is two short rollers with a short bet rotating it horizontally. If longer belt applications are made, there may be multiple additional sets of rollers. These may be used with light manual labor or for automated uses.

The decline of the conveyor belt can be used in more complex supply chain systems. It is like roller beds but come with rougher surfaces, feeders and are designed to grab onto items when titled. If something needs to be loaded downwards or upwards, you will see these belts.

Brake and meter belts are used when more control is needed. Brake belts stop the loads and meter belts initiate movement.

Piano hinge belts have metal bodies and tracks, suitable for transporting hot liquids or melted material in industrial settings. This is useful for putting material into molds to create metal or plastic products.

Wire mesh belt material is used to transport finished products that may be really hot and would otherwise damage other belt materials. It may also serve to help cool components as it moves to other parts of the production line.

Conveyor belts will remain an integral part of many industries for quite a while, especially as things become more automated. If you need industrial conveyor belts, give us a call to see what kind of system you need.
