Gravity Conveyor Basics

Download our Gravity Conveyor Basics Brochure Here!

Definition:
GRAVITY CONVEYOR: Roller, wheel, or ball transfer conveyor over which the force of gravity moves material manually.

FOOTPRINT: The geometry of the bottom surface of the load that is to be conveyed.

Gravity roller conveyors are designed to be used as a manual “push line” for level applications or for decline applications using the natural force of gravity to move the materials along the conveyor.

Careful consideration of the materials' footprint is important when selecting the appropriate conveyor for a given application. Because of the ability to form themselves around the rollers, soft or pliable materials are not well suited for gravity roller conveyor applications.
