Recycler Uses LEWCO Humidity Chamber to
Manufacture High End Countertops

Recycling and green manufacturing are becoming more and more important
to the health of our planet and economy. LEWCO equipment is being used
by one manufacturer to create beautiful, granite-like surfaces out of
recycled glass. The largest proportion of the glass used in the creation
of the countertops comes from curbside recycling programs. Other glass
is recycled from post industrial usage, windows, dinnerware, stemware,
automotive windshields, stained glass, laboratory glass, reclaimed glass
from building demolition, and other unusual sources such as
decommissioned traffic lights.
LEWCO was approached to provide a solution in the manufacturing process,
which requires the countertop slabs to be heated to approximately 200
degrees F in 105% humidity for eight hours, in order to cure.
Humidity Chamber
Insulated steel enclosure, approximately 8‘x 10’ x 10’
high with (2) insulated roll-up doors, one on each end, a top mounted
circulating fan and steam distribution piping. Complete welded enclosure
is fabricated from 16 gauge aluminized steel interior, 4”-8# density
mineral wool insulation and 18 gauge aluminized steel exterior covers.
Powered doors will be field installed and wired and are constructed of
24 gauge galvanized steel with silicone rubber gaskets. No floor or base
was required.
Humidity Chamber Rack
Structural steel, welded rack constructed with 4” @
5.4# channel up rights
with (8) vertical positions of gravity roller conveyors with precision
bearings mounted in plastic cups. Beginning at the floor level or the
lowest elevation the transfer car can reach (12”), each rack position is
approximately 12” center to center, approximate top shelf elevation is
98” elevation.
The humidity chamber rack conveyor includes anti-backup
devices on the entry end of each lane and pneumatic cylinder pin stops
(powder coated) at the discharge of each lane to prevent molds from
falling off the ends.
Transfer Car Lift with Pass Through Design
Gravity Roller Conveyor
Lift is operated with 12 volt DC power complete with momentary raise
and lower push buttons. Lift comes with 120 volt AC battery charger to
be connected at end of track when cart is not in
use.
Lift has 6000 pound capacity with 96” vertical travel, lift and
retraction speed is approx. 48 seconds for full cycle. Gravity conveyor
includes 2-1/2” diameter, 11 gauge rollers, 63” between frames, 6” roll
centers. The overall length of conveyor is 120”. Conveyor lift device is
column supported with carriage being supported on 5" diameter trolley
wheels with #RC100 roller chain drive complete with anti-backup stops.
Transfer cart is supported on 12" diameter, cast iron flange wheels for
easy push pull operation.
